Tai Bai Mountain
Tai Bai Mountain is
one of the most renowned mountains in China, it is recognized as the highest
peak of Shaanxi Province. The most well known point is the " Tai
Bai Ji Xue", which is one of the eight spectacles of Chang'an.
Name Origin
Located to the south of Meixian County, Shaanxi Province, and straddles
Taibai County and Zhouzhi County is the Tai Bai Mountain. The peak has
a long freezing period, with snow all year round except in the summer.
So when viewed from the northern plains, the peak looks as shiny as
silver. That's the reason why people call it Tai Bai, which indicates
the meaning always white.
General Introduction
Tai Bai Mountain has been existed for more than 100 million years after
the geological movement of the Yanshan Mountain. It is mainly made up
of huge granite stones with the highest point that over 3,767 meters above
sea level. The mountaintop is Baxiantai in cone-shape and with a temple
built on. Also you could see several beautiful lakes on both the southern
and northern slopes, such as Daye Lake, Big Taibai Lake etc.
Due to the different altitudes that Tai Bai Mountain has possesses, we
could see rare seed plants, kinds of bryophyte and numbers of fungi on
the north, central and southwest parts. Animals also of various kinds
exist, of which many are under State-level protection, like giant pandas,
golden monkeys and takins etc.
Tai Bai Mountain Nature Reserve
In order to protect the plants and animals here, the government decided
to set up the Tai Bai Mountain Nature Reserve in 1965. It covers some
54,00 hectares around the mountain. Now, it has turned to be a leading
research base of geography, plants, animals, herbal medicines, environmental
protection, etc.
Tai Bai Mountain National Forest Park
As an official establishment
that opened to public in 1992, the Tai Bai Mountain National Forest Park
turned out to be another tourist site today. Relying on the natural advantage,
it was titled as "'Asian Natural Botanical Garden" and the "Natural
Zoo of China".
Lying at the north foot of the Peak of Qinling Mountain, Tai Bai Mountain
National Forest Park, is situated in Meixian County, in Baoji City of
Shaanxi Province. Covering an area of 7,287 acres, 94.3% of which is covered
with forest, it contains 10 scenic districts and over 180 attractions.
Since its height above the sea level varies from 0.39 miles to 2.18 miles,
Tai Bai Mountain National Forest Park is the highest national forest park
of China.
