Shaanxi History Museum
Shaanxi History Museum is located on Yan Ta Road in Xi'an City, Shaanxi
Province. It was officially opened to public in the year 1991. Shaanxi
History Museum is among the first-class museums in China both from inside
equipment and items on display. Its establishment is the last wish of
Premier Zhou.
Shaanxi Province is the birthplace of the ancient Chinese civilazation
with the capital Xi'an, which had lasted 1100 years as the capital city
in thirteen dynasties. Xi'an was all alone be put in the position as the
central stage of Chinese history, so that there are abundant cultural
relics both underground and overground. Besides, only emperor mausoleums
have numbered up to more than 70.
Brief Introduction
The museum's architectural buildings, internal appearance and displays
have made it well known in China, a good choice for traveling.
Located in the southern outskirt of Xi'an City, northwest of the Big Wild
Goose Pagoda. Shaanxi History Museum occupies an area of 65.000 square
meters. It is recognized as a magnificent construction with typical Tang
Dynasty architecture style.
A predominant pavilion right be placed in the center with several secondary
pavilions orderly distributed around it. It is a place fulfilled with
serious and solemn atmosphere due to the simplex colors of black, white
and grey. Totally speaking, there are more than 370,000 exhibits from
different times and of various kinds. They are the cream of cultural relics
selected from among the hundreds of thousands of cultural relics, the
majority of which are worldly treasures.
The only two-stored museum actually consists of three major exhibition
halls.
Basal Exhibition
Hall
Of all the exhibition sections, they are displayed in time order. The
Basal Exhibition Hall is composed of the seven sections from the prehistoric
period, about 1.7 million years ago to Qing Dynasty. In details, the first
three sections mark the time to 206 BC of Qin Dynasty where the ape man,
the pottery, bronze sacrificial vessels, weapons and terracotta figures
are on display. A general view of the historical process from 206 BC to
589 AD of the Northern and Southern Dynasties will be gained from the
following two sections on the second floor. The significant Chinese invention-papermaking
and some important events are portrayed on the scrolling painting. The
last sections lasted more than 1,000 years of six dynasties. The typical
model of the main Chang'an City of the Sui and Tang, silver and gold utensils,
pottery figures and high-level china are waiting to appreciate.
Theme Exhibition
Hall
Theme Exhibition Hall covers an area of 2,500 square meters to the west
side of the Basal Exhibition Hall. Th eitems on display here are all possess
specific motifs, that means each of them shows the history or the cultural
relics of Shaanxi Province in a idiographic point. For instance: the "Shaanxi
Pottery Figure Exhibition", the "Buddhist Culture Relic Exhibition"
and "Shanxi Bronze Ware Exhibition". A fresco hall is under
construction, in which visitors will be able to enjoy the frescos unearthed
from the mausoleums of the Tang Dynasty and explore the social condition
then.
Contemporary Exhibition
Hall
With the Basal Exhibition Hall as a center, the Contemporary Hall lies
on the antimere position of the Theme Exhibition Hall of the east side.
It is a hall that keeping on conducted, the frescos, the culture relics,
the folkways, the fine arts and the calligraphy are surely enjoyable by
the visitors.
